Wendy McLarty: Fun Facts
Hometown: Sergeant Bluff, IA
What’s your family like?
My husband, Ed, and I live in Sergeant Bluff with Carter, our 15 year old son, and our dogs, Kayne and Cooper. We also have two older children, Jerid and Sierra, who both live near Denver.
What do you do in your spare time?
I spend a lot of time at our youngest son’s sports activities. We are currently watching a lot of baseball. I also find myself in Colorado visiting our two older children. Oh, I also cut hair on the side – and love, love, LOVE my clients! I like to shop and decorate, too. 🙂
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
A wise man (my dad) once told me, “Don’t start anything that you don’t want to do for the rest of your life!” Words to live by.
Do you have a personal hero?
I have had several people inspire me along the way. Too many to list.
Who is your Favorite Band?
Hands down, Prince – R.I.P. – I’d put the Foo Fighters as my second favorite.
Fried Green Tomatoes
All-Time Favorite Book?
Anything by Jodi Picoult
Describe your dream vacation:
I love hot weather – so a sunny, warm beach is my favorite vacation setting.
Describe your dream home:
Anywhere close to my kids. 🙂
Do you have a favorite food or meal?
Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds. I love cereal. Oh, and shelled peanuts. AND anything Ed is cooking!
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
The ability to fly, even though I am afraid of heights. It would get me to my older kids faster than the Am Track train and it’d be great to avoid the long wait at the airport!
Explain your role at CW Suter Services:
I am the HR Specialist and the Safety Coordinator at Suter. I also coordinate the Suter U program, which is a really cool program designed to provide students and our employees with apprenticeship classes and ongoing training. I also assist our management in daily operations, whenever I can. 🙂 Oh, and I also dabble in our marketing department.
Wow, so “busy” describes home AND work, huh? What’s the hardest part of your workday?
Every day is a different day here at Suter. I never thought it would be as diverse as it is, but imagine: 100+ employees who all have different wants and needs. It keeps things interesting, and fun…and some days, really chaotic! I have become a pretty good multi-tasker.
Sounds like you feel like the “hardest” part of your job is also one of its positive points. Why do you think that is?
We have a really supportive environment around here. Yes, it can be demanding, but I feel like the company really cares about me – about all of us! Suter has given me opportunities to try new things and helped me to network with other professionals in our area. It’s given me the confidence (and the desire!) to continue to grow in this field.
What is the most fun part of your work day?
I love the people! 🙂 I work with a great group. I am impressed with the work ethic, the longevity of employees – some have been here 30+ years! I think that says a lot about the environment we have here. We laugh and have fun at work, which helps us to be a better, more productive team.
